Art and vivid colour in a home with character

Customer character as inspiration

Iñigo Iriarte interiorismo shows us a young and fun project in which colour and art merge with the coffee tables from the Emma Collection. Fresh details that welcome us to this home in Eustasio Amilibia.

We talked to Iñigo, interor designer in charge, who tells us all the secrets of this youthful interior.

Momocca: What needs did you face for this interior design?

Íñigo Iriarte: We focused on creating a home project for a young couple who are moving into their first home. They wanted something to enjoy the present, but looking to the future.

The challenge was to create a youthful interior, but at the same time, one that could change along with them. So we made a sober base using mouldings, wood panelling and creating compositions with the idea that the strength would fall on the pieces of furniture and art. In this way, with a few changes in the details, the house can be adapted to another essence.

M: How were you inspired to create this youthful interior?

II: I wanted a bit of everything. The decorative elements give it a very youthful feel.

It’s set up in such a way that if we were to take them out and put in more refined or sophisticated decorative elements, the project would change to another line.

In this case, the emphasis was on youthful and fun touches to create a house that was to be lived in.

The idea was to reflect who was going to live in that house. In the end you create a very close bond with the client, you can see that point of joy and fun character. This had to be reflected in the house.

M: What role does art play in achieving that character?

II: Often the client has a first idea and on the other hand, we make a selection of proposals. Then the client opens his eyes and discovers the potential the space has.

For example, in this case, we presented these details with bright colours, different, carefree works of art, there is even a selection of animals that give a youthful touch, but at the same time very careful. The art here conveys the couple’s own character.

M: Along with the art and the colour of the decoration. The beam and the concrete partition wall contrast with each other, what were you looking for with this effect?

II: We wanted a point of contrast with the moulding and the lacquered wood cladding we did to hide the doors. Beam and partition are immovable structural elements so instead of softening it we gave it importance and thus achieved a brutalist touch. To complete, we chose a polished concrete floor.

We added all the upholstery to balance the atmosphere. With the floor, the beam, the whites… the house could be short of warmth. We printed the warmth through the carpet and the fabrics. We looked for an eclectic mix when selecting the fabrics.

M: This is the framework in which we found the Emma tables by Momocca. What does it bring to the project?

II: What we wanted with the Momocca tables was to support the fundamental idea of the project.

They use noble material, but with an ideal point for the youthful interior we were aiming for. That’s why we went for the copper finish. The client didn’t just want a few bedside tables, she wanted tables with character.

I particularly like Momocca and every time I can add a little detail I do: sideboards, shelves… and this time a coffee table.

I like the product because it has that touch of design and behind each product is the delicacy and care of a well-made product.

Everywhere you look it has that perfect polished touch that I love a piece to have.

M: If we leave the living room we find a striking kitchen and bathroom. What was the aim of creating such different rooms?

I: In the case of the kitchen, we wanted it to be more than just another kitchen. It must be THEIR kitchen. We had to find a point in which, once you are in it, the client sees it as their own. Like a made-to-measure suit. Furthermore, in such an open space, colour had to be in charge of separating the rooms.

We gave the bathroom a darker colour with different degrees of lighting. The desired effect was to have soft lighting to create a relaxing atmosphere after work. This play of colours gave us the opportunity to put backlit lights creating a super interesting and intimate atmosphere.

M: You mentioned that interior design is like a tailor-made suit, is that a summary of your work philosophy?

II: Yes, of course. When we have a project, we look at it from the point of helping the client. Without the interaction with the client we could have very nice projects, yes. But it’s no use if the client doesn’t feel at home. That’s why it’s a tailor-made suit.

In this case, we had a young couple, super fun and cheerful and this is exactly what their home transmits: a space with daring, youthful pieces but that create contrast with other more sober ones.

Getting to know and establishing a relationship with the client is the basis for a good project, to create this made-to-measure suit.

Momocca would like to thank Íñigo Iriarte and all his team for their dedication and time to carry out this interview. Thank you very much for your trust in Momocca to create this youthful interior.
