Olive groves, inspiration for the interior.

The Olive House by in56

Creating a cosy and spacious atmosphere inspired by olive groves whose protagonist, in fact, is an olive tree, is the aim of this project by in56: Casa Olivo, “the Olive House” in english. A contemporary style home in which Adara gives us a warm welcome.

Vanesa Vergara and Andrea Diego tell us more about this inspiring project.

Momocca: What kind of project are we looking at?

IN56: It is a flat in the centre of Bilbao that needed a complete renovation. Like many of the layouts we find in the city, it only had two windows to the outside and the rest inside, so we created an interior courtyard that simulates natural light to achieve spaciousness, clarity, and luminosity. There we placed the protagonist of the house, the olive tree.

At the main entrance, we placed the Momocca Adara furniture to welcome us.

M: We imagine that the inspiration for the project comes from nature, right?

IN56: In part yes, as we have mentioned, the olive tree is a relevant component in the project and our inspiration comes from it. We were inspired by it, by the green and yellow fields, by the mixture of woods and natural fibres.

M: Following on from the above, we see the leading role of wood, both in the living room and the bedroom, what is the aim of this?

IN56: Our main objective was to design a cosy, elegant and contemporary house and for this wood had to be the main material. It appears in the main furniture, in the panelling that hides doors, in ceilings and floors.

We combined it in different tones to give prominence to what we were most interested in, such as the sideboard in the entrance hall or the dining table.

M: Is that why you have opted for this range of colours that are not very saturated?

IN56: The main colours in the house are white and brown, with greens and terracottas as secondary colours. Black and chocolate brown metals play an important role and appear in the details of the furniture, in the latticework, the handles, light fittings and some taps.

Everything helps creating this cosy atmosphere.

M: How does Momocca fit into this project?

IN56: We needed a very elegant sideboard, in keeping with the rest of the house and we had no doubt that the Adara sideboard by Momocca was the ideal one for the place. We wanted it to be wooden but to contrast with the back panelling so we opted for a stained oak.

The black metallic details combine perfectly with the lattice that separates the living room and the kitchen, and with the skylight next to the entrance hall. We opted for a light gloss dekton on the upper part to make it more special and to contrast with the wood.

We opted for the high leg model with drawers as it seemed the most practical for a hallway.

M: Finally, we can see that many elements of decoration, lighting and furniture, including Adara, opt for a curved design, were you looking to give this prominence to the curve?

IN56: Yes, curves are an undeniable trend and we wanted to incorporate them at the beginning by creating a cosy atmosphere. In addition, curves are very functional in furniture that is found in transit areas, such as the entrance hall or the coffee table in the living room.
