On January 14, architect Ricardo Bofill left us, but his work, full of symbolism and poetry, is already part of the history of architecture.

And so it was. Ricardo Bofill opened the doors to new concepts, new styles and a constant reinvention of this art in each of his works. We show you some of the most surprising ones:

It was built in 1973 inspired by the Arab Kasbah. Its striking color responds to the fact of wanting to create a certain relief to the architectural elements.

Also, in Calpe we can find this iconic housing complex inspired by the Ifach Rock and composed of a structure of cubes

In 1975, Bofill found an abandoned cement factory and turned it into a home. This home includes a space dedicated to culture with an exhibition and concert hall.

Brutalist style in one image. It was built in 1975 and is made up of 18 towers that create a vertical labyrinth. Each passageway is named after a celebrity: Eisntein, Chaplin, Kafka…

Bofill presents this solution for a congested city by creating a new form of “villes nouvelles” city with large gardens and even a viaduct.

An impressive construction that was designed as an alternative approach to the modernist ensembles. An urban monument that is a symbol and reference of the Marne Valley.

Here in Valencia, Bofill’s work materializes in the Jardín del Turía,, in the sections in front of the Palau de la Música and a posthumous building at the entrance to the city.

So the workshop is still in operation. But now it is his sons who continue and extend his legacy, making their father’s philosophy and values their own.

After seeing these works, we can understand the large number of awards and recognitions he has received throughout his career. He has even been named Doctor Honoris Causa at two universities (Polytechnic of Catalonia and Metz in France).

As you can see, Ricardo Bofill revolutionized architecture with concepts that were often called poetic and even dreamy. And it is these concepts that have made him the icon that he is.
