JACKIE

A bar designed from the 60's disco music

Jackie, is the name of a song by Scott Walker, but since last April is also a bar in Helsinki. A bar of green and toasted colors, in line with both minimalist and art deco.

This bar bathed in nostalgia was conceptualized with the desire to evoke a Milanese bar from the 1970s.

The designer is Joanna Laajisto, and she explains that as a briefing she was given a playlist of Italian lounge music from the 60s and 70s, and French cosmic disco from the 70s. In this way, the owner wanted to make people understand the atmosphere he was looking for in the space

The palette is made of a dark green, leather upholstery, dark wood and marble. The designer wanted to create the atmosphere of a hotel reception, but without the rooms.
Laajisto explains how the dark green walls and ceilings along with the long, toasted leather sofas take you to a Milanese bar from the 1970s. Of course, the Pipistrello lamp from 1965 by Gae Aulenti helps to reinforce the illusion.

“Live DJs play a great role in the atmosphere of the bar, so great importance was placed on their booth,” continues Joanna. The booth was designed with sapele wood, also the bar, to help differentiate them from the uniform green background that floods the space.
